The Myobrace® System

Straight Teeth the Natural Way

A majority of today’s children have crooked teeth. Modern research has shown that crooked teeth are not genetic, rather are a result of bad oral habits such as breathing; incorrect tongue postures and swallowing habits. These habits begin in early childhood and prevent proper jaw development and limits the space available for erupting teeth.

Myobrace treatment works by addressing the underlying causes that affect both dental and facial development and teaching children to correct their detrimental oral habits. Treatment involves wearing a series of removable appliances that are worn for 1 hour each day and overnight whilst sleeping. This is combined with a series of breathing, tongue and mouth exercises which assist in stretching and strengthening the tongue, lips and cheek muscles. These activities are provided by our certified Myobrace educators.

The most common early signs to look for in your child are:

• Open mouth posture where, during rest or sleep, the child will have their lips apart.
• Restless sleep and snoring at night are also symptoms to watch out for. These can not only lead to developmental issues with jaws but are also related to sleep-related disorders, which can result in behavioural problems and learning difficulties in children.
